Cemetery Services

The Clearfield City Parks Department’s annual cemetery cleanup at Clearfield Memorial Park, 1050 South State Street, is held the first Wednesday in April each year, weather permitting, 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. If you have gravesite decorations that you wish to save, please remove them before that date, as any items left on a gravesite will be discarded. If the weather proves to be inclement that day, the cemetery cleanup day will move to the second Wednesday in April. Please contact the Clearfield City Customer Service Center with questions

Information & Guidelines

It is the desire of Clearfield City Corporation to operate and maintain a cemetery that is beautiful, dignified, and an appropriate final resting place for loved ones.

In formulating these rules and regulations, it has been our desire to offer as much freedom of choice as possible while still preserving those regulations necessary to maintaining a high standard of beauty and efficiency. We sincerely hope that you will assist us in this effort by adhering to these rules. We also solicit your comments and suggestions regarding general maintenance and operating procedures.

Lot Ownership & Privileges

A. Nature & Extent of Rights Acquired: Upon the payment of the purchase price, the purchaser acquires the rights of burial in said lot, subject to the rules and regulations of the cemetery. No interment will be permitted in or marker allowed on any lot not fully paid for, except by special consent of the cemetery manager. In the event such consent is given, any and all interments placed in or markers placed on said property shall be considered as permissive until such property is fully paid for.

B. Descent & Inheritance of Burial Rights:Upon the death of a lot owner, the lot descends to those named in his or her will or to his or her heirs as designated by law. Clearfield City Corporation shall in no way be held responsible for a failure to properly determine the legal successor-ship of the said lot owner. The heirs are entitled to the same use of the lot as the original owners and are bound by the same rules and regulations.

Perpetual Upkeep

Perpetual upkeep is defined as the general care and maintenance necessitated by the natural growth and ordinary wear which may be provided at reasonable intervals within the budget limits of the cemetery. It includes the planting, cutting, watering and care of lawns, maintenance of fences, roadways, and walks. It also provides for the care of trees, shrubs, and flowers planted by the cemetery. It does not include the maintenance and care of markers or flower vases.

Burials

A. Notice Required – Compliance with Law: Interments are limited to human dead. Directions for all interments must be given and all charges prepaid at the administrative office of the cemetery. The person giving the order must be able to give the lot owners’ name and address, the name of the person to be buried, the name of the funeral director, the date and time of the funeral, and the grave space to be used.

B. Advance Payment of Burial Fee: No grave will be opened until the charges are paid.

C. Hours When Burials Permitted: No funeral or interment will be allowed in the cemetery on Sunday. On all other days, funerals will be allowed between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Additional charges will be made for interments after 3:30 p.m., and on Saturday or holidays.

D. Excavating: The cemetery manager or someone employed by the cemetery is in complete charge of every interment. No grave shall be opened or filled, refilled, or sodded except by the employees of the cemetery under the direction of the cemetery manager.

E. Errors May Be Corrected: The cemetery manager shall have the right to correct any errors that may be made, either in making interment, or disinterment, or in the description or transfer of any interment property.

Regulation Access & Conduct

A. Clearfield Memorial Park is closed from dusk to dawn.

B. Improper conduct is prohibited. Clearfield Memorial Park has been dedicated for the burial of the dead. Any behavior or conduct not in keeping with this purpose is expressly forbidden.

C. The speed limit is 10 m.p.h. Vehicles must keep on driveways while in the cemetery. Only authorized vehicles allowed on turf.

D. Animals are prohibited on cemetery grounds (service animals are exempt).

E. No smoking/vaping, alcohol or drugs are allowed on Memorial Park grounds.

Decoration of Graves

A. All decorations are to be located on headstones to allow proper health and care of turf.

B. Cemetery staff reserves the right to remove all flowers, wreaths, or other decorations from graves:

1. At least ten (10) days after holidays and interments.

2. Every Wednesday April through October, weather permitting.

3. The second Wednesday of every month November through March, weather permitting.

C. Families desiring to retain decorations must remove them before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

D. Recognized holidays are: Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, Pioneer Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

E. Flower containers of wire and metal frames or anchors, boxes, jars, cans, or bottles are not be permitted.

F. Artificial flowers may not be placed on the ground with the exception of holidays.

G. Fresh cut flowers are permitted in a sunken vase anytime. Sunken vase must be located in marker mow strip.

H. No planting of any type of plant material or digging or disturbing the sod within the cemetery will be permitted.

I. Please leave flowers, plants or objects that have been left by other visitors. Those who remove decorations left by others will be subject to criminal penalties.

Markers

A. Markers must all be flat.

B. Markers shall be at the head of the grave. All markers shall be required to have a 4″ wide x 4” deep (minimum) concrete mow strip flush to the ground.

Miscellaneous

A. Office Records: The cemetery office is located at 55 South State Street and is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the exception of holidays.

B. Power of Cemetery Manager: The cemetery manager, subject to the direction of the city council, has entire charge of the cemetery. The cemetery manager may take such action as necessary in order to protect the property of the graves and lot owners and the cemetery from injury to the appearance of the lots, graves, and grounds.

C. Prices and Changes: Prices of lots will be furnished by the cemetery management. For information on prices, please call (801) 525-2790.

D. Liability of Cemetery: Clearfield Memorial Park personnel will at all times exercise diligence and reasonable care in the protection of the rights of the property of the lot owners and visitors of the cemetery.

E. Alteration and Repeal of Rules: Clearfield Memorial Park reserves the right to make, amend and repeal the rules and regulations of the cemetery and to make exceptions thereto, but such exceptions shall not amend or repeal any rule or regulation.
